Who are we?
Araceli is a Violence Interrupter and Youth Life Coach working in schools and the community. Prior to this Araceli was a Homies 4 Justice Associate at CURYJ. Araceli has also worked as a legal processor at Alameda court where she first hand saw many problems with the court system, was a manager of government contracts at a cable company for aircraft cables for commercial and military use, and worked as a supply specialist in the U.S. Army. Araceli grew up in East Oakland, and her work at CURYJ is driven by the desire to give youth and their families support that wasn’t available in her community when she was growing up. Her heart has always been in her community and now getting to work in the same community that she loves so much, she works to bring youth opportunities, expanding their minds, and to work with families whose trauma has impacted their day-to-day life, knowing that united we will triumph. Si Se Puede!
Born and raised in Oakland, CA, Francisco has experienced and witnessed first hand how detrimental it can be to live in a society that lacks the capability to help underprivileged people in their pursuit to gain a sense of identity, community support and access to healing services. He believes in engaging with individuals, groups and families who are at the forefront of the struggles that plague our neighborhoods and have been victimized by an ongoing culture of violence. He works on restoring the confidence within our city to help mend the divisions caused by gangs, ideology and absence of trust within the current systems set in place. It is his firm belief that we must take a broad approach at reaching out to the groups at the center of conflicts to create a foundation upon which they can build and develop the necessary tools to stop resorting to violence and create a setting that incorporates peaceful means of resolution.
