What services or resources do we offer to students through Health Initiatives for Youth?

Food in Context is about nutrition and food justice/in the environment. Leadership in Diversity is a health class with many social/emotional focus topics like Healthy relationships, safer sex, body image/self esteem, substance use, harm reduction, mental health, social media and many other things.

Who are we?


Sheena Castrejon

Sheena, born and raised in Oakland, joined HIFY back in 2006. Sheena attended MetWest High School where she got the opportunity to be an intern at Tilden Elementary where she was a teacher assistant for a first-grade class of students with special needs. She also was an intern at The Ella Baker Center For Human Rights -Books not Bars. Throughout her time at HIFY, She also worked and WORLD (Women Organized to Respond to Life-Threatening Diseases. She wanted to give back to her community and motivate, support, and inspire youth like her.
