Dr. Michael Gebreslassie

Dr. Michael Gebreslassie joins Fremont High's administrative team after working in K-12 urban school settings for the past 12 years. Born and raised in Eritrea, he earned his bachelor's degree in Geography Education from the University of Asmara in 2006. He then earned a Master's degree in Environmental Sciences and Diplomatic Leadership (with a particular emphasis in Environmental Education) from the University of Tsukuba, Japan.  He earned his PhD in Education and Leadership from California State University, East Bay in 2023! 

Michael moved to the U.S. in 2015 and has worked at OUSD's Community Day School as a Lead Science and Math teacher. In addition to teaching, he volunteered at OIHS for three years to support newcomer students. Michael received his teaching credential from Cal State East Bay and, most recently, got admitted into the inaugural cohort of DLI Aspiring Principals of Color Fellowship at LMU, where he also earned his administrative credential.
